Founder Story & The Birth of HARIMASADA

Tarmizi M, the founder of Harimasada, is a man with a dream : to bring the world closer to his village. His journey began with a simple yet powerful idea to introduce Cross Cultural Understanding and to build friendships between locals and foreigners in his home island of Lombok, Indonesia. After resigning from his job at Royal Caribbean Cruise Line in 2016, Tarmizi began traveling from village to village in East Lombok. These short trips were not just about exploration—they were about connection. Over time, he invited foreign friends to join him. The presence of these foreigners, often with white skin and blonde hair, naturally drew the curiosity of local children. Village kids were excited to meet people from other countries and cultures, and this innocent curiosity sparked something bigger.

What began as casual interactions evolved into structured volunteer activities, with foreign visitors teaching English, playing games, and engaging in cultural exchange with the locals.

On July 17, 2017, as more people joined, this simple movement grew in impact and consistency. It gave birth to a community called: HARIMASADA, an abbreviation of Harapan Itu Masih Ada and symbolized by the ticker HIMA, carries a powerful meaning: "Hope Still Remains." It reflects the spirit of resilience, unity, and the belief that even in the most challenging times, hope is never lost.

Harimasada was founded as a community based nonprofit organization focused on education, environment, and empowerment. What started as one man’s dream has now become a growing movement of hope, learning, and Cross Cultural Friendship.
